Match ReportsSaturday 24th July, 14(G)2. Noosa 0 v NYU 4. The girls were expecting a win in this game but came up agains a much improved Noosa. NYU were sluggish from the start and struggled to put 2 passes together. They started to get more desperate and hungry for a breakthrough near the end of the first half. They showed that desire when Maddy challenged the keeper and Krystal got hold of the loose ball and scrambled it over the line. NYU then found their composure as Leah grabbed a second with a well taken left foot strike. The second half was the exact opposite with NYU passing and moving well. Kiah playing her first game out of goal for a while was winning all the ball in midfield and rolling passes all over the park. Beth, Krystal, Leah and Maddy were giving good options. Kiah took the ball to the bye line and passed a ball into Krystals feet which she expertly put away to make it 3 nil. Kiah then picked up the ball outside the box and drove at the Noosa defense before chipping the ball into the top right hand corner for the goal of the game. NYU continued to dominate and Maddy was so close to scoring her first goal when she hit the post. A great second half and well done to Noosa who could have scored a couple themselves but were thwarted by Jess who threw herself at the ball on a couple of occaisons to keep Noosa scoreless. Also well done to Gabby for a very solid performance at sweeper. SATURDAY 19th June. 14(G) 2, Coolum 1 v NYU 3. The girls were at Coolum from the off, some good passing in the attacking 3rd provided plenty of chances, but early on the girls were unable to break the deadlock. Late min the 1st half Jess slipped a great through ball to Krystal who finished well. Courtney Menz then grabbed her first goal when she slotted home from a good cross. Coolum added NYU's 3rd as NYU were in total control. NYU were in a bit of dissarray at the start of the second half as Coolum piled forward. THe midfield failed to pick up many of the runs being made and exposed their defenders to a lot of pressure Kiah kept made some good stops to keep Coolum out. They did though get a goal for their efforts. Kiah then came out of goal and helped an excellant Gabby in the midfield gain control. Another good win for the girls who need to keep this going if they are to make the top 4. Saturday 12th June 1st Div, NYU 2 v M'dore 1 NYU came out firing in this game, playing some exhilirating football from the off. NYU soon were rewarded from their good play when Lloyd climbed at the far post to bury a header past a scrambling M'dore keeper. NYU continued to press and Andy Harrison missed a glorious chance to double the lead. Scott Keen then scored the goal of the season picking up the ball 25metres out flicking it past a defender and volleying a screamer into the back of the net. NYU then reverted to type and seemed happy to defend the lead rather than go for the kill. In the second half M'dore hit back as the ref who had made some strange decisions throughout the game gave a corner for a ball that went out of play 3 metres up the side line. M'dore capitalised bringing the score back to 2-1. NYU again woke and could easily have added a few more. Sam Bennett set up a glorious move with a great ball to Glen Standen who rolled the ball into the path of Andy Harrison who just couldn't find the back of the net. A good win for NYU and it was great to see Dustin Slypen back to his best making the midfield tick. 14(G) 2, NYU 2 v M'dore 0 The girls came into this one after 3 very tough games and missing a couple of influential players, fortunately for the girls M;dore only managed to field 9 players. NYU dominated but really failed to get to grips with the extra space no one was really sure who was picking up who. The second half was much improved as NYU attacked with more purpose. A fantastic through ball from Jess allowed Charlotte the chance to smash home the 1st goal. Kiah came out of goal and added a new dimension to the NYU play with her range of passing. NYU added a second and took the points as M'dore tired. A good win for the girls and well done to battling M'dore team. Saturday 22nd May 1st Div, NYU 1 v Coolum 0 The game wasn't one the purists. It was a dog fight from start to finish. Strange refereeing decisions constantly stopped any flow the game had. Any Harrison had the best chance for NYU in the 1st half but his shot agonizingly went went wide. Coolum rarely threatened the NYU goal, but NYU also looked unlikely to break the deadlock. Then NYU won a corner, the ball was flicked on at the near post and 'big Joel' smashed a volley into the roof of the net to the relief of everyone on the pitch and in the stands. NYU saw out the remaining few minutes to take the points! U17s (2) Saturday 22nd May 2010 Coolum 1 v NYU 2 "For the second successive week, NYU were forced to field a team of only ten players but managed to come away again with a win! This week, they were up against a full Coolum side with three reserves and once again, a performance of great effort & commitment saw NYU win the match by 2-1. Coolum took the lead midway through the first half, but two goals in quick succession by Nathan Bennett ensured that NYU went into the half time break leading by 2-1. The second half began with most of the play being in the midfield as neither side were creating many chances but as the half went on, it was NYU who looked the stronger team despite their numerical disadvantage, and some great work by Thomas Ralph nearly resulted in a third goal, turning two players before shooting narrowly over the bar. Both Marc Heath & Lachie O'keefe had excellent games at the back, & Coolum were not able to create many clear-cut chances. The match finished 2-1 to NYU, and the man of the match award was given to Nathan Bennett." Saturday 22nd May, U14G (2) NYU 0 v CSPU 3, NYU were again up against a strong team and never really got going in this game. CSPU dominated in all areas as NYU struggled to find any momentum. CSPU desevedly took the lead just before half time and carried that on into the second half. NYU did create some chances but did not capitalise. Some poor defending led to the second goal and some good passing led to the 3rd. This game shows NYU how much work they have to do if they want to remain in the top 4 Saturday 15th May, U14G (2) M'dore 0 v NYU 2 NYU again knew they would have to fight for a result, so it proved as M'dore attacked from the start. NYU struggled with the pace of the M'dore strikers. Kiah in goal for NYU looked determined not to let anything pass and pulled off some crucial stops. NYU started to put pressure on with Charlotte creating a host of chances from the midfield. Krystal showed near the end of the first half what a great striker she is becoming by clinically finishing from good build up play. the second half was more evenly matched with the NYU defence of Kallesha, Gabby and Tameika dealing with most threats, Twice M'dore got through the defence to go one on one with Kiah both times Kiah pulled off great saves to deny them. Charlotte scored NYU's second putting away a simple finish after good blocking by Emily and a great pass from Maddy. M'dore again came back but NYU decided attack was the best defence and camped in the opponents box for the rest of the game. Charlotte deservedly picked up player of the week for some visionary passing and hard work to keep possession. U17(2) NYU 1 v M'Dore 0.“A fantastic performance by the whole team saw NYU come away with a 1-0 result. The result was all the more pleasing as NYU only had 10 players & were up against a Maroochydore side that had a full team and three reserves! The match began cautiously by both sides but as the first half progressed, it was NYU that looked the more likely to score. NYU were playing more like the team with a full side and scored midway through the first half when a cross from the left was misread by the Maroochydore goalkeeper, and Thomas Ralph was in exactly the right spot to tap in the loose ball. The goal clearly lifted the NYU players who now sensed that being short of players was not a major issue, and that they could get a result against the odds. The whole team were working extremely hard for each other, strong in the tackle and being very disciplined in keeping to their positions. The half finished with NYU holding on to their 1-0 lead. As expected, Maroochydore started the second half very positively as they chased the equaliser but the NYU defence stood firm against everything that the opposition could throw at them. Luck was certainly on NYU’s side however when a Maroochydore attack saw them hit the post twice in the space of 5 seconds! However despite their persistence, there was still no way through the NYU defence, and as Maroochydore started to tire, the game began to open up & NYU could have added more goals as a result of some excellent counter-attacking football. Albert Krausse was dominant in midfield, and Robbie Fenton was a constant thorn in the side of the Maroochydore left-back as NYU were unfortunate not to add to their goal tally. Nathan Bennett on the left hand side was also giving the Maroochydore right back a terrible time as he continuously received the ball & took it past his marker. The match finished with NYU attacking again but they simply could not find the second goal which would have killed the game off. Overall, a fantastic, determined effort by the 10-men of NYU, with Robbie Fenton & Jack Selwood sharing the man-of-the-match award.”Saturday 8th May, U17(2) NYU 1 v Buderim Orange 3 “In a relatively close match between two evenly-matched teams, Buderim Orange capitalised on some generous refereeing decisions & some lapses in concentration by NYU to win the match by 3-1.
NYU took the lead on the 27th minute when some great work along the left wing by Jake Evans resulted in a perfectly-struck low cross , tapped into the net by Robbie Fenton. The rest of the first half continued to be end-to-end football, and NYU went in at the half-time break leading by a goal to nil. The second half began the same way, but Buderim went looking for the equaliser and were showing a greater hunger than NYU at this point. The NYU goalkeeper, Drew Cousins was called into action on many occasions, preventing the away side from scoring with some impressive saves. However, the game was to turn on the back of some “controversial decisions by the match officials”. During a Buderim attack, a through-ball was played to one of the Buderim forwards, and although clearly 4-5 meters offside, he was allowed to continue his run, slipping the ball past Drew Cousins. The NYU players could not believe the goal would be allowed to stand, but the referee’s decision was final. It was clear that this decision was still in the minds of the NYU team when a counter-attack by Buderim resulted in the second goal being scored 8 minutes later. NYU continued to chase an equaliser themselves, and Buderim keeper was forced to make some great saves to keep his side ahead. The third & decisive goal came as a “curious” free kick was awarded to Buderim on the edge of the NYU 18-yard box ( no-one quite knows why the free-kick was awarded in the first place!), and the resulting effort went into the net after being deflected onto the crossbar by Drew Cousins in a great attempt to prevent the goal. With only 8 minutes remaining, NYU pressed to get back into the game, changing to a 4-3-3 formation, but Buderim held on to claim the victory.” U 14(G)2 NYU 9 v Noosa 0, The outcome of the game was never really in doubt as NYU came up against a very young Noosa team. The object for NYU was to dominate the play and practice their passing game. Noosa never made it easy and didn't give and showed they have the potential to do well in their own age group. NYU scored some good goals with Leah, Krystal, Kiah and Charlotte with a hatrick getting on the score sheet. The defense remained strong even though they were not put under too much pressure. The next game will be a lot tougher! Friday 7th May, 4th Div, Buderim 4 v NYU 1, A tough ask for the boys against a Buderim team that had won every game. Buderim started brightly on the atrocious field 2. NYU though were causing moments of concern and should have took the lead. Buderim bounced back and made NYU pay. They soon added a second but could not finish off NYU. In the second half NYU fought back and grabbed a goal for themselves through sheer grit and a great finish from Mick Philips. NYU then went on the attacvk pushing 3 up and again caused Buderim problems with Cam and Bucket both coming close. Buderim though finished off the game with the 4th goal. It wwasn't a bad effort by NYU but it shows how much they have to improve. Tuesday 4th May, 4th Div, NYU 2 v Bribie 1, This was an important game for the 4th div team, a chance to get the season going again, NYU started brilliantly passing the ball with ease and regularly cutting strips throught the Bribie back line. At the back the defence was solid and 'Nixie' cleaned up everything that came through his defenders. NYU took the lead when 'Pommie' Mick was upended in the box. 'Bucket' had to take the spot kick twice because of encroachment but nailed both. NYU soon made it 2 nil when Mick tapped home after some great build up work from Tony and Brenton. NYU continued more of the same in the second half with 'Big Shaun' and Ryan having great games. NYU had the chances to further the lead but couldn't quite make it, to finish off an entetrtaining game Bribie equalised in the last minute from a corner. Jeff, Tony, Chuckie, Millsy and Nixie were all gutted at conceding after being superb for the previous 90mins. Saturday 1st May, 1st Div, NYU 2 v Kawana 2, NYU were hopefull that their first game at the NYU cauldron this season would propel them to a much needed victory. They started really well taking the game straight to Kawana and were soon rewarded when big 'Joel' climbed at the far post to nod home the opener. NYU however did not press their advantage and seemed to sit back and let Kawana back in the game. This proved costly at the start of the second half as keeper Robbie was challenged for an arial ball which was dropped and put away for the equaliser. NYU lost some composure and Kawana took the lead after some good build up play. NYU shook themselves out of their slump and soon equalised with a well taken pen from Sam Bennett. Its was all NYU from then on but NYU could not find a winner. You have to feel that if NYU hadn't taken their foot off the gas after theit opening goal the game was theirs for the taking. 14(g) Div2, NYU 0 v Kawana 2, The NYU girls were never really prepared for this game as they had played mostly lower teams and won all their previous games. Kawana took the game to NYU from the the off and NYU were undone by their movement and speed of passing. Kiah tried valiantly but could not stop the onslaught. 2nil at half time. Now NYU knew what they were up against in the second half and to thier credit they took the game to Kawana and dominated large sections of the game creating chances but unable to finish. Kawana were still dangerous Kiah made a fantastic full stretch save to deny them a 3rd, but all to no avail. The girls now know what it will take to make the top 4. Friday 31st April, 4th Div, Kawana 2 v NYU 1 This was a tough night against a very well organised Kawana team. With stand in keeper 'Nixie' in goal and missing a couple of good players NYU were always going to find it tough. Callum starting his first senior game alongside his old man 'Guv' slotted straight into the midfield in what proved to be a debut of fire for the youngster. Kawana toatally dominated the first 30 mins taking the lead and giving NYU nothing. 'Nixie' had to pull of a string of glorious saves just keep NYU in the game. After the 30 min mark NYU started to find their way way and were awarded a free kick 25metres out. Tony puty his hand up and hammered home one of the best free kicks you will ever see. NYU then dominated and carried on into the second half causing Kawana a lot of problems. Callum was coming into his own in the centre of the park making some fantastic passes. Kawana being wily old dogs starting breaking up the play with foul after foul none of which were being punished. Then they struck the winner. NYU never got back into it mainly due to the disruptive tactics of Kawana but fair play to them, it worked. Round 5, Saturday April 24th, U 14girls (2), Caboolture 2 v NYU 3 After going to the top of the table with a win against Woombye last week, The girls had to regroup and focus on the task ahead. Missing two of the standout players this season, Kaleesha and Tamieka who are part of a very strong defense, this game was going to be tough. NYU were on the front foot from the start and grabbed an early lead after some good build up play involving Maddy, Charlotte and Krystal, Jess finished the move off to give NYU a perfect start. Caboolture though kept coming at NYU, Gabby Leah and Emily kept their attacks at bay. NYU were struggling to get their midfield going and gave Caboolture too much time and space. NYU always looked dangerous going forward and Krystal grabbed a second finishing another good move. The second half was more of the same and Caboolture scored from the penalty spot. NYU then reacted keeping up a period of pressure which eventuated with a good cross ball kiah being dispatched by Krystal with a stunning finish in the bottom corner. Caboolture came back scoring a well taken second. NYU scrambled and held out for the win. This was a good lesson for the girls As Caboolture were better than NYU in most areas by taking them lightly almost cost the game, on the positive side they never gave up and again scored some great goals! Saturday April 10th, U 14 girls (2), Cooroora 0 v NYU 1 The NYU girls knew this was going to be tough game and it proved to be the case, a very strong and attack minded Cooroora side took on NYU from the start, but despite their better movement and possession NYU rarely looked in danger. NYU struggled to get their passing game going but were battling hard. The second half saw Cooroora pile the pressure on NYU pushing 4 up front but the team held. Kiah was dominant in goal and the rest of the team worked as hard as they have had to for a long time. As the game drew to close NYU were starting to attack more as the space opened up due to the Cooroora team pushing forward. An obvious hanball in the last minute of the game gave NYU the chance to snatch an unlikley victory. Krystal was calm as stone as she blasted the winning penalty into the top corner with rhe last kick of the game. An ugly victory but it shows how far the team has come they did not give up until the whistle blew! Round 2, 2010 hello to all at nyu .As the no1 supporter as voted by my fans and support crew just thought it would be my duty to put afew words togeter for the start of the season.Well the 1st division boys put on agood show at marooochdore the other night and were unlucky not to get a win . 2nd div have got abit of work to do but i beleive wehave plenty of talent there and i think when we get everybody up and running we should have another great season, not that i have been called biased or anything, solets get to training and get behind ya coaches and show them what you are really capable of boys, we came so close last year lets not dissapoint everyone again naanaa from ya no1 supporter. Saturday 27th March, U14G (2), NYU 4 v Coolum 0 The girls were more confident coming into this game after a first round win. They started the game brightly, passing well and moving forward with purpose. the first goal was superbly finished by Charlotte after a nice ball played across the box. NYU then lost their shape and started chasing the ball which gave Coolum a look in. NYU composed themselves again with Beth dominating midfield from stopper. The second goal soon came, another good pass across the box which Jess put away nicely. The second half saw Kiah come out of goal and Beth take over the gloves. Both proved their worth with Kiah linking well with Krystal and Charlotte. Beth continued a great performance by charging out and making several stops from the Coolum attacks. Kiah wrapped the game up when she scored from the goal line drilling in shot that the keeper could only turn into her own net. Charlotte wrapped up the scoring with a tap in for her second. NYU's defence were superb, Kaleesha, Tameika and Gabby are formidable opponents. Maddy had a great game on the right as did Courtney on the left. Krystal is becoming a great striker and always gives the team options. Leah was as strong as ever in midfield. Well done again girls for another stirring performance! Friday 26th March, 4th div, NYU 4 v Noosa 0 After losing the first game and also losing the majority of pace from the team with 'Cam' and ;Bucket' going to England for a month. The team had a slightly different look. Mitch slotted into central midfield with ' Nixie' as a libero. Derrick and 'Guv' started up front. Derrick got the boys of to flying start, showing power and desire to put the 'REDS' 1up. He soon added a second with a majestic header from a great corner from Ben. NYU were totally dominating and causing allsorts of problems with some slick passing and good movement of the ball. Mick replaced 'Guv' on 25mins and slotted home with his first touch. The 'REDS' were cruising and and in total control. The second half saw Noosa come back and they were grateful to big 'Clayton' who cleaned up everything in the box. NYU pressed on for another goal in the last 20 minutes, several chances came and went, then up stepped Ben to fire in a great shot from the edge of the box. A great win for the boys! Saturday March 19th U14 Girls, M'dore 0 v NYU 4 The girls were not confident with only 9 players and most of them playing up a year or 2. Fortunately M'dore only had 9 players too. The game started with NYU immediately on the front foot. Great passing and interplay but also utilising the width available but the game was tight and you could see they were nervous. A fantastic move saw Charlotte take ont he fullback and roll a great pass accross the box for Krystal to hammer home. From there there was no looking back. The 2nd half saw Kiah come out of goal and Leah take up a more attacking role. Kiah became the lynch pin in the centre of park linking fantastically with Charlotte, Krystal and Leah. Leah grabbed a deserved second through sheer determination, again great passing plays saw Charlotte and Krystal wrap up the game. The attacking was only one element of a great team showing. Kaleesha in the centre and Tamieka on the right gave sublime controlled performances in defense. Courtney and Maddison gave everthing they had out wide and never stopped working all game. Well done all! Friday March 18th 4th Division, M'dore 3 v NYU 0 The 4ths started brightly in this game despite having no pre season at all due to wet weather. The team should have been 2 up in the first 25 minutes with 2 great chances for ' Bucket' but he hasn't found his range yet and blasted both over the bar. With 5 players on both benches interchange was always going to have an influence. Maroochy handled it better and took the lead near the end of the first half. The seconf half saw the sky blues taking hold of the game netting twice more at the start of the second half. NYU came more and more into it but were unable to get a goal. NYU played some nice football and with some more game time will come into their own. A big thanks to ' Nixie' for taking on the goalkeeping responsibilities and pulling off a couple of great saves. Below are some match reports from 2009 season. Saturday 29th August. Semi Final 1st Div, NYU 6 v Buderim 1, NYU blasted its way into the preliminary final with a magnificent performance against Buderim. Things looked ominous in the 1st minute as Buderim took the lead thanks to a looping header. NYU took a few minutes to realise what had happened but the 'RED ARMY' soon started to get the players into gear. Kevvie Harris got NYU back level with a free kick that eluded everyone. NYU then started to turn the screw. The noise from the NYU support only echoed what was happening on the pitch as Sam Bennett showed his predatory instincts to put NYU in the lead. A scuffle in the box saw Harris sent off with his Buderim counterpart. NYU only got stronger as Bennett pulled off his best ever game for NYU by adding 3 more goals. Firaz Zein was the target of constant man handling and was the focus of much of Buderim's aggression, but he too had a great game with excellant movement, support play and passing to ensure NYU's victory. Buderim collapsed as frustration got the better of them, losing 2 more players to the ref's red card, Firaz capped off a great night with the sixth goal. .The 'RED ARMY' went ballistic. 'Bring on Woombye' 'C'MON YOU REDS' Saturday 8th August, 1st Div, NYU 3 v Kawana 1, NYU gave their finals push a huge boost with a come from behind win at Kawana. In the first half a win seemed unlikley as NYU were unable to get going and alowed Kawana to take a deserved lead. in the second half NYU came out a different team with striker Firas Zein quickly equalising, Firas added his second just after the hour latching onto a Mickey Reynolds free kick. NYU finished the game off soon after when Glen Standen added a third. The win keeps open the race for a second placed finish. With Woombye losing the outcome will be be decided on the last day of the season with a tough trip to Buderim. How appropriate for the tightest 1st Division competition in years' C'mon You Reds' Saturday 1st August, 1st Div, NYU 4 v Woombye 3, Wow! What an advert for local football, the 2 hinterland clubs went at it hammer and tong in the battle for 2nd place. The daily wrote a great write up so rather than my usual spiel here is the write up from Mondays paper! NYU’S premiership credentials have received a massive boost with a gutsy 4-3 win over Woombye at the weekend. After knocking over the second-placed Woombye, the Yandina-based side is now undefeated in their past 13 games since April 25. While Woombye maintains second spot on the ladder – leading NYU by 1 goal difference – the win gives NYU substantial momentum going into the final three weeks of the home- and-away season. While ecstatic with the result, NYU coach Shaun DeCourcy expressed quiet optimism about the side’s ever-increasing premiership hopes. “We’re not home and hosed yet,” he said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done between now and the end of August. “Beegees had a magnificent 5-0 win over Kawana last night, which has really put the pressure on us. “Mathematically we’re still not there. “We’ve got a lot of work to do. We’ve still got a couple of injury concerns. “We’ll rally after that game and we’ll talk about what we need to do. “The boys are confident and that’s the pleasing thing. “We need to be confident now. It’s basically semi-final time already.” Woombye shocked the massive crowd assembled to celebrate NYU’s 35th anniversary when Luke Alderson slotted home a penalty. Sam Bennett looked set to score the equaliser but was brought down from behind in front of the box, allowing gun striker Firas Zein the opportunity to level things up from the penalty. The home side went into the break with a 2-1 lead when Sam Bennett got the first of his double. He got his second soon after the break after cleaning up the scraps of a Firas Zein shot on goal that hit both posts before landing at his feet. NYU looked to be getting away with the game but Woombye managed to square the ledger with two goals to Luke Alderson and Corey Towle in 20 minutes. Needing a boost, it was the crowd that came to the fore, willing the home side on. They got their wish nine minutes from time when Kurt Martin found Dustin Slypen who casually slotted home the winner. DeCourcy paid tribute to the crowd. “The crowd got 110% behind us and rallied us,” he said. “They were a tremendous influence on the game. They really turned it around for us.” Its a good write up, and yes the crowd were great,One of the biggest I've seen at NYU for a few years,God help whomever holds the Grand final if NYU make it , be warned you will be overun in a sea of RED!
Saturday 25th July, 1st Div, NYU 2 V CSPU 2 NYU went into the game firmly in the hunt for 2nd spot, with 11 senior players missing it was always going to be tough but a positive attitude would surely overcome a struggling CSPU side. The game started brightly but it was clear from the outset that NYU thought they would stroll through this one. Although CSPU were not creating much the crowd could sense that NYU would struggle to lift their game. It took a moment of sheer guts, determination and no little skill from Kurt Martin when he took on the CSPU defense and crossed a ball that strikers dream of. Johl Saddler duly applied the bullet header finish that the run deserved. NYU then stepped off the gas. CSPU came out in the 2nd half by far the better team and quickly equalised with a great finish. They took the lead a few minutes later when goalkeeper Robbie Lenssen was left standed and the entire defense watched as the CSPU striker tapped the ball home from 2 yards. NYU finally woke up ad piled pressure o CSPU they didnt look like they would give away anything until a poor challenge gave NYU a lifeline. Johl Saddler calmly put away his second. NYU had chances to win the game but in fairness CSPU deserved the point.NYU will have to be more focused if they are to grab second place. Saturday 11th July, 1st Div, NYU 0 vs Maroochydore 0 In what was hyped up as being a classic attacking match ended up being a defensive dour struggle. Maroochydore undefeated in 2009 were up aganist a vibrant NYU with a 9 match unbeaten run. The game was played at a high standard however both keepers finished the game without being forced to make a real save. NYU will take a lot of confidence away becoming the only side this season to keep Maroochydore scoreless. However it was the first time since round 1 that NYU haven't managed to find the net themsleves. Firas Zein and Sam Bennett were both starved of chances up front despite the good percentage of possesion that the NYU midfield of Slypen, Reynolds and Hodge had. The Coaucaud brothers were rock solid in the backline and captain Harris orgainsed the side brilliantlty. Harth and McCarthy outwide were solid though didn't get a lot of chances to break forward. Full credit must go to both sides for their brutal work in defense and it is no surprise that both sides have the best 2 defensive records in the league. Some are wondering if that was a preview to the Grand Final...........
U 15 boys. M'doreWhite 1 v NYU 2, After 3 weeks off, the boys came back with a bang. In swirling wind at M'dore, NYU dominated the 1st half but found themselves a goal down due to some poor defending. Within a minute of the restart they were on level terms when Thomas Ralph cooly chipped the keeper from the edge of the box. They soon took the lead after some good build up play from Jeremy Hutton, Callum Henderson, Eddie Gamble and Nathen Bennett, Thomas Ralph slammed home the loose ball to get his second goal. The boys then relaxed a little too much, and didnt defend their lead well. Drew Cousins in goal really kept them in it with an intimidating display in goal. The Team desrved their win but will need to improve their defensive game oif they are to earn a top four spot. Saturday 27th June. 1st Div, NYU 1 v Noosa 0, This was a big game for both clubs, a win for NYU would keep them in the hunt for the premiershiup and a win for Noosa would get them a step closer to the top 4. The conditions were heavy after heavy rain the previous night and both teams struggled to find their groove. The first half was a very tepid affair with neither team really threatening the goal. A moment of sheer quality early in the second half settled the game. Sam Bennett controlled the ball beautifully before rifling the ball into the roof of the net. It was the highlight of a very poor game. Both teams showed great endevour but rarely showed the quality they possess. NYU must be happy with what was scrappy win, but that is what champions are made of! ' C'mon You Reds' Saturday 13th June, 1st Div, NYU 3 v Beegees 0, NYU came into this game missing 5 first team regulars, Star striker Firaz Zein, midfielder Mickey Reynolds and sweeper Kevin Harris were all missing and ripped the heart out of the team. NYU were sceptical about how they would go against a very good Beegees outfit. From the first whistle it was obvious NYU meant business. Kurt Martin and Jonathen Harth took over striking duties and never gave the Beegees defence any time on the ball. NYU pressed from the outset and Jamie Cauacaud struck a sweet volley to make it 1 nil. NYU continued to look dangerous as half time approached then Glen Standen struck with a wonder strike from outside the box to give NYU the cushion it deserved. The second half was a bit tamer until a Beegees player took it on himself to stir the pot reacting badly to a Kurt Martin challenge. He head butted the NYU player but caused more damage to himself. A red card was duly issued even though Beegees tried to substitute the player in the furore. With 10 men Beegees actually took hold of the game as NYU struggled to hold the ball. The game was killed off a few minutes later when a fantastic run and cross from Jonathen Harth allowed Alex Keen an easy tap in for NYU 's third goal. The team should be proud of their acheivements and their performance will give coach Shaun food for thought in the coming games. Saturday 6th June, 1st Div,NYU 1 v Buderim 1. With both teams even on points this was always going to be a tight game. Both teams tested each other out early but none could take their chances. Buderim started to dominate the midfield and looked the most likely to score. Nyu held out and the teams were level at the break. The second half started in the same manner, then some sloppy play allowed Buderim a quick counter attack which they capitalised on. NYU probed away looking for the equaliser, just when it looked like Nyu were running out of ideas up popped Firas Zein with another clinically taken goal. He didn't play for much longer as injury forced the striker off. The game ended all even, probably a fair result despite some of Buderims good possesion Saturday 23rd May, After a stunning performance against leaders Woombye the previous week NYU had it all to prove against a tough Kawana side. The game started slowly with both sides trying to find a weakness. Nyu were looking the stronger and took the lead when Sam Bennnett pounced on a loose ball. Kawana immediately hit back to silence the NYU crowd. Kawana then took the lead as NYU struggled to find the free flowing football of the previous week. A stunning header by Firas Zein put NYU back on level terms, The second half was a cagey affair with both sides having few clear cut chances, With only seconds remaining the game looked destined for a draw but Firas had other ideas as he broke into the box and gave the keeper no chance with an angled drive into the bottom corner, Another stunning strike from the new NYU hero. It was no more than NYU deserved as they battled for the victory that pushes them up the table. Saturday 16th May, 1st Div, Woombye 1 v NYU 4 NYU Slaughter Snakes at the Snake Pit 4-1 NYU has one its first derby win in 5 years in emphatic style away at the snake pit. Woombye went into the biggest coast derby as league leaders. The snakes were no show for an inform reds outfit that are growing in confidence as the end score line of 4-1 would suggest. It was an electric start from both sides with some brutal tackles but a goal midway through the first half to import Firas Zeal opened up the game. He superbly blasted past the Woombye keeper after collecting a great Sam Bennett through ball. The match then stepped up another level and before NYU could settle Woombye grabbed an equaliser when they capitalised on an NYU error from a corner. The game stepped up yet another notch and an all in push and shove tussle seemed fire up NYU.... The sides went into the break at 1-1 and Shaun Decourcy asked his troops to dig in and want the game more than Woombye.... Early into the second half Dustin Slypen picked the ball up out wide and cut through the Woombye defence before whipping a ball into Firas Zeal to smash home his second of the night. Not long later it was 3-1 when Zeal buried home his third in a masterful display of finishing to send the adoring vocal reds fans into raptures. Beau Hodge was superb for NYU in defence and Kev Harris lead the side well but it was the strikers who stole the show tonight and Sam Bennett was rewarded for his great game with a tremendous late goal to complete the rout. 4-1 and NYU looking good. Next Game Vs Kawana at NYU
Saturday 9th May, 1st Div, NYU 2 v CSPU 1 NYU were always in contol of this game despite the scoreline. They showed composure and patience to break down a committed CSPU team. Goals from Glen Standen and Firas Zein ( his second in 2 games) ensured the victory. Although CSPU managed to make it 1 all they never really threatened consistantly. Coach Shaun Decoursy was probably more worried about if a winner would come or would NYU suffer a succur punch and lose in a game they had dominated. The winner did come and The crowd plus the team noticebly relaxed although CSPU gave NYU a few nervous moments the victory was well deserved. 2nd Div, NYU 5 v CSPU 0, The reserves continued to impress with this victory over CSPU, They dominated for the whole 90 minutes with an electrifying display of composed attacking football. U15 boys, NYU 0 v Beegees 8 No disgrace in this game, The boys started the game with 11 players for the first time in 3 games. They were quickly on the back foot when the ref gave a penalty for a fantastic tackle by Albert Krause ( Oscar Definately deserved for the dive). Then the hammer blow with NYU seeking an equaliser striker Nathen Bennett challenged the keeper and sustained ankle ligament damage. Beegees then added to their lead before Nathen Gill tackling in the box also sustained ankle ligament damage. With 2 key players out and no subs the boys struggled to find their shape. In the 2nd half they came back but were constantly battered by Beegees. The ref was giving nothing accept to Beegees ( 3 penalties) The boys battled bravely with Callum Henderson contesting everthing, but their was no way back. Beegees played the 9 men well and deserved their victory. Friday 8th May 4th Div, Caboolture 2 v NYU 2, This was a tough game for the 4ths against a Caboolture team unbeaten at home. Their problems were made worse after 12minutes when Todd Brown was red carded when he reacted to a hefty challenge. The boys though pushed on and deservedly took the lead through Dan ' Bucket' Beckett. NYU were creating the best chances and Charlie Roy had a pile driver pushed round the post. In the second half Caboolture came back and equalised. NYU immediately regained the lead when ' Bucket' pounced on poor clearance. Nyu should have added to their lead with 'Guv' repeatedly putting Bucket through. Charlie Roy then put a header clearly over the line but the ref and linesmen didnt see it before the ball was cleared. NYU then had good calls for a penalty when 'Guv'contolled the ball from a corner and fired at goal. the ball was clearly handled wide but again the ref didnt see it. As NYU tired Caboolture found an equaliser. NYU were happy when the ref called the game early due to an on field injury and should be satisfied with a job well done. Saturday 2nd May 1st Div, NYU 5 v Gympie 0, The Reds were up fot this game and hit Gympie hard from the first whistle. Dustin Slypen slotted home the first after picking up the ball outside the 18 yard box. That goal got the crowd going and it never stopped for the whole 90mins. Further goals from Glenn Standen 2 and Firas Zein on debut kept the party going. ; Big Joel Caucauad also punished Gympie with a bullet header. A very entertaining game, NYU will face a lot tougher challenges but showed in this game what they are capable of. U15 boys, NYU White 1 v NYU Red 2, This was a tough game for both teams as they are all friends. The Whites managed to field 11 players while the Reds had 9 players. meaning they were short for the 3rd game in a row. The first exchanges were even with the Reds working hard to cover the gaps. The Reds took the lead through Nathen Bennett and then had to endure constant pressure from the Whites. In the 2nd Half the Reds relied on breakaways to challenge the white goal. Drew Cousins made it 2-nil when he cooly finished 1 on1. The Whites came back and the Reds were grateful to some great saves from stand in keeper Callum Henderson. The Whites managed to pull a goal back near the end and the Reds were grateful to hear the final whistle. Well done to both teams for a thoroughly entertaining game. Stand out for the Whites was Ryan Grimes. Nathen Gill gave his all for the Red cause and was an example for all the players. U13 girls.NYU 3 v Bribie 3 The girls got off to a good start playing well and keeping their shape, They dominated for the first 15 minutes and desevedly took the lead. The girls then started to chase the ball and put themselves under pressure. The managed to make it 2 nil and really should have been cruising. Poor defending let Bribie back in the game despite some great saves from Kiah Henderson. NYU manged to Make 3 to 1 when Bethany made the most of a goalkeeping error. Bribie came back and managed top level the score near the end. The girls need to learn how to hold the ball and maintain their shape. They are very competetive with some very talented players but undo their good work with too many errors. Saturday 25th April 1st Div, Maroochydore vs NYU 5-3 NYU went into the game with a great line up and keen to get a win over the bench mark of the comp so far. Sam Bennett finished off a Dustin Slypen cross early on to give the reds a 1-0 lead. NYU kept pushing forward and had a great piece of the play until a mistke in the back line gave Maroochydore a half chance to equalise which they accepted. 1-1 at the break. The second half started disastorously for the reds when a free kick to Maroochydore was hammered home to give the home side the lead. NYU hit back instantly when a superb free kick was wipped in by Glenn Standen to allow Sam Bennett to head home his second goal for the night. 2-2 and NYU looked like having the better of the play until an ordinary long range effort from a Maroochydore player was misread by reds custodian Rob Lenssen, somehow finding its was into the back of the net off the post. 2 minutes later it was 4-2 when Lenssen dropped a free kick through his hands. The game finished 5-3 with Jonny Harth scoring late in the game to give the score board some respectability. It was a night Lenssen and the team would rather forget! Sunday 26th April U 15 boys NYU Red 4 v Coolum 3 This was a tough game for the boys with only 10 players available. Striker Callum Henderson who was carrying a bad calf injury was forced to go in goal to make up the numbers. The boys started well creating a lot of chances but succumbed to basic defensive errors to lose 2 easy goals. The boys did rally but didnt show enough belief in themselves. A brilliant 25 metre strike from goalkeeper Drew Cousins got the boys back into the game. A few home truths from coach 'Guv' at half time gave the boys a boost. The second half was impressive. 2 more goals from Drew plus a stunner from Nathen Smith put the boys in control at 4-2. They did start to tire and conceded another goal. They kept going! A last minute save from Callum ensured a thoroughly deserved victory. Well done all U13 girls. NYU 3 v Maroochydore 1 The girls again showed they can be competetive in this division, even though they played well, they need to learn some discipline with postions as it will cost them in future games. Goals from Stacy , Jaqueline and Crystal ensured victory but brave goalkeeping from Kiah kept them in front when Maroochydore broke through. If they can learn to mark up quickly and hold position they have the ability to go far this season. Wednesday 22nd April 1st Div,Noosa vs NYU 1-2 The boys came out firing after the loss to Caboolture and took an early lead through Sam Bennett after he tapped in from some great work down the left flank from Glen Standen. The lead was short lived however when Noosa capitilised on a defence blunder to level the scores. NYU hit back into attack mode straight away and created some good chances. Just before the break Sean McCarthy made the most of some great lead up play to smash home and give NYU a 2-1 lead into the break. The second half saw NYU hold on strong to win their second game of the season, though their first points. 1st Div, NYU vs Cabooluture 1-2, Saturday 18th April NYU started the match full of confidence but this was wiped out pretty early on when Caboolture scored twice in the first 20mins in a blitzing display of football that turned the NYU defence inside out. A half time revving from coach Sean DeCourcy seemed to work as the second half was all NYU. Johl Sadler pulled a goal back for the reds with 20mins to go. Despite peppering the Caboolture goal for the remainder of the match there was no joy to come. It wasn’t to be NYU’s night and Caboolture got a great 2-1 win away from home Saturday March 28 1st Div. NYU 2 v Coolum 1 After a disappointing game at Beegees NYU bounced back with a fine win over local rivals Coolum. The game was fairly even throughout but NYU deserved their victory.Goals from 'Big Joel' Caucauad and Glen Standen ensured the 1st game at fortress North Street ended with NYU claiming the points. 2nd Div. NYU 1 v Coolum 0 The reserves matched their win at Beegees with another great result. In a very entertaining game both sides tested the keepers continually with former NYU player Zac McKean having a suberb game as stand in keeper. Young Andy Harrison though came off the bench and cooly slotted home the winner after the game looked destined too remain goaless. U15 Div 2. NYU Red v Maroochydore Blue 0 In another very close game on a treacherous field 2 NYU left it very late to grab the win. NYU dominated most of the game with the defence and goalkeeper Drew Cousins looking unbeatable. Fullback Lochie Bowers put in a man of the match performance stopping everthing thrown at him. Just when NYU looked too have run out of steam and ideas Nathen Smith zipped a ball accross the face of goal for Callum Henderson to stab the ball home at full stretch. That was virtually the last kick of the game. U13 Girls Div 2. NYU 8 v Coolum 0 The girls got off to a flyer with goals galore coming from Jaqueline, Krystal, and Bethany. The Reds were so dominant that Keeper Kiah only touched the ball twice in the whole game. This game will be a good confidence booster for the girls who are still a very young side. |
